Corporate fitness start-up Unicorn Gympass acquires online personal training company Trainiac
Gympass, which raised $ 200 million in June, will now offer users access to personal training through Trainiac.
Founded in 2016 by former Microsoft and Facebook employees, the Trainiac app connects people with certified personal trainers who run individualized workouts and create plans to achieve goals and ensure accountability.
Gympass said the deal will help meet demand from corporate clients looking to support “an increasingly decentralized workforce.”
Terms of the contract are not disclosed. Gympass will maintain a product team in Seattle.
Trainiac was co-founded by Akshay Ahooja and Frank Fan. The company has only three employees. It raised $ 2.2 million in January 2020. Funders include Andrew Wright, Seattle chief technology officer, Geoff Entress, co-founder of Pioneer Square Labs, Kevin Merritt, former CEO of Socrata, and Edward Yim, president by Bluemoon Ventures.
Gympass reached a valuation of $ 2.2 billion when he upped his Series E earlier this year. It has over 4,000 corporate clients who use the company to provide fitness benefits to their employees. The company started in Brazil almost a decade ago.
