Global study shows 72% of employees are under-trained

COACHHUB PRESENTS the results of its 2021 Global HR Survey, revealing that learning and development programs require urgent attention to meet the needs of today’s workforce.

Currently, only two in five companies tailor their programs to each individual, with almost half (45%) offering a standardized offer to all workers. The employees themselves are not happy with the current situation; Almost three-quarters of those in leadership positions in training and development (72%) admitted that their staff regretted the lack of training and development initiatives.

The pressure is on for HR and business leaders, as 2022 is expected to be a year of growth. The majority of respondents (85%) predict growth in 2022, contrasting forecasts for 2021, where 70% of respondents expected growth in 2021.

With growth comes investment; 92% of respondents believe that training and development budgets will increase in the coming year, which is an exciting prospect for employees looking for opportunities to thrive in their organizations.

Breathe new life into the development of people

An injection of capital into training and development programs is a time for leaders to adapt their approach to the varying demands of the business climate.

“Currently, organizations do not appreciate the full potential of the training and development programs that exist. While minor adjustments as a result of widespread remote working have been implemented, many solutions have simply been adapted digitally rather than being digital first by design. Today’s workers need a more sophisticated and personalized approach. says Juliane Sterzl, Senior Vice President for EMEA at CoachHub.

Almost all executives (97%) believe it is important to adapt their employee training and development program to the current business climate. Indeed, according to the same survey, 77% of respondents agree that it is more necessary to invest in the training and development of employees following the pandemic and remote working.

Shift into high gear towards an individualized approach

The results of the survey show that 70% of decision-makers identify that their employees are interested in a return to learning and face-to-face training following a digital switch-over during the pandemic.

“The large proportion of people yearning for face-to-face contact actually indicates that we aspire to more human interaction and collaboration than some of the digital tools allow. It’s not about abandoning digital development altogether, but rather about better marrying the convenience and increased accessibility that digital platforms offer, with the real interactions we once associated with the physical encounter with people. It’s at the heart of how we operate at CoachHub, ”concludes Sterzl.

Three-quarters of those surveyed admitted that their organizations have struggled with employee burnout and well-being in the past 18 months. It is a problem – but not one without solutions. In fact, 93% of decision makers surveyed by CoachHub confirmed that they had adjusted their training and development program to better accommodate the “new normal”. More than half (56%) of the managers surveyed have already implemented individual coaching in the development of their employees, reaping the benefits of reintegrating this personal bond into the workplace.

The survey was conducted among 2,500 employees in leadership positions in training and development in organizations in 21 countries around the world, examining how companies are adapting their human resource development strategies in response to the major upheaval of the last 18 months.
